What to do when an unknown number calls you

An unfamiliar number is usually harmless, but a few quick habits keep you safe.
Do this first
- Do not call back straight away, especially if it was a single missed call from an unfamiliar international number.
- Let it go to voicemail. Genuine callers usually leave a message.
- Search the number, in full and with the country code, to see if others have reported it.
Never share these
Do not give out one-time passcodes, PINs, passwords or full card details to anyone who calls you, even if they say they are from your bank.
If you already answered
Hang up, do not press any keys, and do not follow instructions to install an app. If you shared sensitive details, contact your bank or provider using the number on your card or their official website.
Afterwards
